store rules

our store is so big and chaotic...we have made some rules that have helped us survive and keep it going...... no credit, no layaways, no special orders.... we arent big enough or organized enough to offer some things that seem normal other places..and especially at our prices......we are more like the auctioneers, as is .. where is ... and if you want it you buy it...kind of old fashioned...

. but it keeps us on the right track and , we hope, in good with our customers....they know we dont offer that stuff and dont take it personal...

we do store things for free if they have to be left...and we try and tell all the damage we know about on the antiques...

but as far as ordering we just cant do it...

one guy asked for a certain cabinet last weekend and wade ended up saying, we are too unorganized to even think we could do that...

...actually, i felt awful yesterday when a really good customer wanted an entertainment center..she said all our furniture is from you and we want our tv thing to match....

it sounds so much easier than it would actually be... im the communication center and 3 guys are the manufacturers....

..i can barely deal with all we have going now.... and being too organized would really cramp me...even if it were possible.... there is a lot of total serendipity in this place and that seems to work and keep it interesting to me anyway..........

so knowing our limits..we say no a lot.....our goal is to underpromise and hopefully over deliver....

around the web

today was my day off and i took some time just to loll around , nap, dabble , cruise the web.... for the first time i looked at etsy .... http://www.etsy.com/ it was like going to a huge art show..... cool....i kind of searched lots of different ways, like by shabby from 50 to 500$...i saw rehabbed furniture like we do for a lot higher...

i love altered art and all the neat junk it uses and the free outsider views it sometimes has.......i get lots of ideas but not much time for it or the right skills either....heres a neat site http://alteredroute.blogspot.com/ and my all time favorite ullabenulla http://ullam.typepad.com/ullabenulla/ there is so much on that site..

http://www.zneart.com/index.php im not quite sure what thisw is, but there is some great stuff on it...

.i find such wonderful places, and too often cant get back to them...

also today i tried to work on my word skills....im such a teckno dud...but maybe someday i can put pictures and words together in the font and color i want....

i did help dh and jon out at the store for a couple of hours, trying to get all the furniture put away....

while i was home , 30 boxes came in at the store..christmas and fall merchandise.....just what i need to face tomorrow on a busy saturday morning....

...i love my job...

today i got to meet a fun arkansas traveller...and her mom...... i wish she was a neighbor.... also today a guy from the past came .....about 15 or 20 yrs ago on a hot day ...i got a call and went on a house call .. it was an old guy who had 15 nice oak 12 ft long church pews....i drove over alone and we made a deal.... somehow he and i loaded them on my pickup truck, we didnt have boxtrucks or jon then, .....somehow we lined them up on end in the truck , not laying down....i was about 20 miles from home and had to go the back way it was such a scary load...also too tall for any low phone lines....and this was also before car phones or cells.... i got home just fine..... a fun memory.......

....well yesterday an real old guy came in and had some doors for sale.....and he said, remember me i sold you some church pews.... he told jon he was hoping that lady was still here......

what would be the chances ? that someone would be there in the same place doing the same thing 15 yrs later....he didnt even call first...
.it was a nice day....that part anyway...
the sad part was a great worker here had to quit..hopefully to come back next summer..... so im looking for more help....and thats always real hard.........
