lake manitou

our store is just south of here...

we have big lake manitou signs....and old postcard images of the lake from the turn of the century to the 1920s...6 for 10$.........from way back when lake manitou was a huge resort and party lake with 3 hotels and a houseboat and big bands and dancing under the stars....

fun customers.....

we had a great day today..

..the fun customer of the day told me a little story.....she saw a big birdcage and told me about hitchhiking across the country inthe 60s, carrying a birdcage with her cat in it...from indiana to l.a....all by herself....she said back then everyone did it....

another told me about being around a bonfire up on a mountain in ky at a family reunion...and about a wild horse up there and driving some off road thing on the mountain trails....hes over 80..

and then there are all the little girls who love the foo foo room....

the cutest car was little and red , a smart car...the biggest , hunkiest was a big yellow hummer ...

and i got to meet the lucky lady who got my giant caterpillar as a present from her husband ..he was there too......and we had a good laugh...about the day he bought it on the phone , the day of the blizzard..... see his picture down in the blog on 0ct 20...

then another old buddy of jons was there....a ww2 vet...and he said america better start making stuff again...all the kids want to do is make money in computers and finances.... i showed him our indiana made cupboards...and i so agree with him...our school system doesnt even teach shop anymore...

so many came today... we definitely plan/ hope/want to make it thru this bad economy and it felt good to see such a good turn out for our sale..

..we all know folks who are hurting financially a little or a lot...its just kind of crummy out there ...

but its good to get out of the house and shop a little too....

Steampunk Parts

this is our etsy idea...selling big lots of true vintage steampunk parts to the altered art world... for jewlery making , quirky collages, wierd machines, fun , or maybe big gothic or steampunk constructions..and also vintage parts for scrapbookkers.. it would be so fun to see where all this ends up.. we will have lotsof nice super old watch dials on soon....we have a lot of them.... i dont quite get how anything is found on etsy.the tag system is kind of hard to figure.....but we are on there ... i have learned some new words on there...destash...convo, ning, etsymini,

tags, and more....we have about 60 groups on and more coming..

. my aim is for the artists who want the real vintage parts , not digital or made in china stuff.... altered artists who need steampunk supplies.. its all here at the store too...

we got out today and bought lots...it was so good to get out and see someone elses stuff....also a good time for jon and i ...we make a lot of executive decisions on these trips.... nice time to talk over all the business issues..we kind of run on a consensus system....

......i did pass up lots...but we are trying to be conservative ...no fun...

what im good at is buying stuff...possibly too good...lol........like above and just selling it here....thats been my life for years and years..

.and i will always love the big stuff best..

..but now im trying to spread out into the cyberworld ..and learn the crazy things i have to learn just to go there....

...and for a person who grew up when off and on on the machines meant something ...i can barely deal with the things i need now... like my computer, my camera, anything mechanical......i just cant do it very well...

.. but i want it...and im trying to learn it .its pretty frustrating to see the possibilities and not be able to do them easily.
like why is this post so stretched out...

.i just cant figure every little detail out....BIG NEWS....shabby chic declares bankruptsy....and my 2 favorite mags went belly up...country home and mary englebrite.... but we still have ROMANTIC HOMES which i love...and we sell at the store..
