THE STORE WIDE SALE STARTS ON FRIDAY....all the furniture will be on sale.... and everything else....
we just got in more giant chickens and quite a bit at auction last week....so we are really packed and trying to get it all ready......
still need to get the ads ready.... aND the work schedules,,,and all the things moved to their yardsale spots... a big job since one of the things is the whole half price room.....
we have the cards all printed and should be stamping them soon .....if you didnt get yours be sure and sign up at the counter....
LOTS OF WINDOWS WILL BE HALF PRICE...
around the store today.....we were so messy and so busy today..so much coming in and going out.... ...thankfully, lots of customers and they didnt seem to mind the mess.... we are pulling out of a mall and brought a whole boxtruck full of stuff so it can be here for the big sale.... we did get almsot all of the storage unit stuff priced and put in boxes for the sale...
teamwork;;;; I BOUGHT A PILE OF INDUSTRIAL STUFF/metal junk out in the parking lot ...including a wonderful huge iron hook..... about 5 minutes later a guy brought it in to the counter and dh just made up a prices 2$!!!! so wrong.......and he knows nothing about the industrial market or what i was going to sell that hook for....the man was happy to get it...and totally shameless about the giveaway price... ..

a nice day off.........

today we got a nice big pile of old time primitives...yelloware bowls, a butter churn lots of crocks, ironstone potty, all kinds of crock bowls, paintings, graniteware etc etc... the lady was an old antiquing friend...we met at her yardsale a long time ago...and have bought and sold to eachother ever since.... she always said when she got ready to downsize she would call me.... shes about 80 and from west virginia, .and knows a lot......she finally answered a question ive always wondered about...how did they clean out the jugs in the old days? it seems impossible to get inside those old jugs to clean them.....she said they were usually for molasses and her mom would heat the water and pour it in the empty jug and it would melt out the mollasses and she would do it over and over until it ran clear.... ....
she gave me a present...a box of old sheet music...and told me about how they cooked baked beans ...let them sit all day in the bean pot then put bacon and molasses on them and put them in the stove all the next day day...
also there was a nice big pile of misc for the yardsale!!!
my big car is packed full so i guess i will be working a bit tomorrow on my day off....again....
now in, all rehabbed and repainted.........
a nice red cabinet, about shoulder high
a white buffet with open front
a nice black hall seat with a lift lid
a big fancy white china cabinet
a big black counter or island, a beautiful panelled door is the front

a big manitou sign, 6 ft long
and ....a nice git r done sign..

slow and trash to treasure...

one of our trash to treasure counters... or cash wrap or kitchen islands...and one of our window creations all dressed up for winter last year...

it was so slow today!!! ..so we fluffed and made stuff.....we always have lots of work to do...
thank heavens for trash to treasure
it saves us every day....either selling the parts to our creative customers for their projects or making up things to sell............we get a lot of interesting inventory from good old cheap parts.....we have tons of windows, old doors and old shutters and old spindles and new and old tin and piles of misc!!!

so we make things

...like chalkboards....made with chalkboard paint on old things,

...we have shutters and tons of neat brackets so we make shutter shelves

...wall words on windows

...tin words on shutters........lots of things in the rough room get more valuable with some clean up or a little paint...

...all of the above we can do without carpenter skills.....except for cutting the little shelves out for the shutters...

then,if jon can help we go for more wilder and bigger ideas......hes the only one we allow on the big saw..

.and every week we have the chance to lay out a project like the picture above, for our carpenter who wont buy wood....that big counter is almost totally from recycled parts......

the idea part seems easy...i get 10 ideas before hitting one that really hatches out and is produced and actually sells....we have lots of half done and total failures....hanging around...

one trash to treasure theory we have is...if its small, under 2 ft, it can be made in china for 3$....so why go there....

one neat customer was trying to make me grubify those little electric tea lites.....no way can i use my paid help to add 50 cents to a thing.....it was a good idea tho....for our country room...

so we are busy little bees....and packing things away for the yardsale too...

bought today....

huge railroad chains

little pile of tools

cow chain
beautiful french sofa

fun road signs....men working etc etc

THE RECORD FOR LONGEST TRIP TO THE SALE WAS A GREAT BUYER WHO CAME all the way FROM NEW ORLEANS...
we are ..DIGGING INTO ALL THE CORNERS OF THE STORE and pulling out tons of great stuff......if weve had it very long its going to be bye bye out there in the sale!! THIS THING IS ANNUAL AND RAIN OR SHINE.... ON SUNDAY AUGUST 9..

SO IT WAS A VERY GOOD WEEK........we bought from our chicago buddy, jon went yardsaling....and my best supplier had me a nice big fat pile!!!

with a store you have to think several months ahead ....Also ive been ordering madly for the fall and christmaas.... ....im trying to figure out what everybody will be in the mood for this year....i got some cute and cheap and some big and fabulous...this is something dh and jon dont help me on at all....its just over their heads..... so its mostly carol and lana and ruth and i looking thru the catalogs and trying remember what was popular last year and what was left over....and whats neat and new for this year...

the yardsale is so close..AUGUST 9..we got the postcards...dh designs them and we print here...im working on lining up the workers for the big day....its takes lots to set it up and at least 10 on the sale day.........and as usual it seems impossible to get it all done and priced...but we always do ....with a lot of hard work......and my yardsale building is really packed this year .... ..

one of my favorite parts of the sale is seeing the rough room out in the sun.... you can see its full potential then....it gets so piled up in there!!! and there are always hidden gems even we havent seen for a while...

JACKPOT OF JUNK

IT WAS SUCH A FUN SALE AND

SOME WILL STAY OUTSIDE IN THE JUNK GARDEN IM THINKIN OUR RECYCLED 5 FT CHICKEN IS RIGHT AT HOME ....

SAVE THE DATE

YARDSALE SUNDAY AUGUST 9...
.9 AM
31ST ANNUAL.... STOREWIDESALE...BIGGEST BARGAINS OF THE YEAR.... we have started making some decisions...
i hate to think we are this far into summer..... usually our first decision regarding the sale is what kind of mailing we send out.....the stamps have gone up again..... so we have chosen to use a regular postcard instead of the jumbo one....this saves us about 700$ in postage...but was the jumbo card worth 700$ more $$$??? not sure if we chose right on this....our mailing list is close to 4000 names....making the stamps almost $2000......we cut about 200 names off last night.....if you got cut please email dh and he will put you back on....and get on the email list next time you get in ..
also time to think about the schedule....im starting to think about what will be in the half price area.., for sure a huge pile of great christmas things we got from a fancy store closing....,..... and im seeing a whole houseful of misc this week....
i think we are going to have the best pile ever for this years sale.. .. this is annual and a biggie..we have saved things back all year in another building just for the super cheap yardsale part......if you havent been here for it here are
the parts of the sale......
+ the sale really starts friday august 7....that would be the storewide sale and the half price sale...we use a big area under the awning for that...packed full....
+ but the best part...the big yardsale is sunday only....thats the day that jons yard gets unveiled and you can buy from the rows.... 3 huge rows of 50 cents..2 $ and 4$....
+ on sunday the rough room is moved out into the driveway!!! and wade has free food...
we have plenty of parking and lots of help that day...
all this is rain or shine....

a good day...packrat paradise...

jon and i went to a great auction today.......kind of hog heaven....it was the best auction sale ive been to in years....tons of great primitives and wonderful farm stuff., buried in piles of misc and total junk.......piles and piles...we got some great stuff....and the prices will be nice and low....

i got these

these are great for flowers....or ice and beer

part of our pile....i love totes and metal pails cans and baskets...

a good row

a manly day.....the big crowd was mostly men.......but they look at it as tools and we look at it as also accessories.or iconic rural america or ART....or raw materials for trash to treasure projects..... ..so it kind of works out.. the owner was a good old buddy and buyer from most of us...
.2 rings ran the whole day....i was outbid a lot by a 10 yr old amish boy....bidding for his dad in my ring as his dad was in the other.....they must be better than jon and i because jon wasnt in the other ring bidding against the dad....whats with that!!!!
i knew the owner....he was a wonderful guy and he was always going to sell me something,,...HA!!...but never actually did....now i see why..he was a total packrat and had acres and buildings so he never ran out of room.......he had at least 15 buildings and trailers , so he never had to sell anything.....
...

jons building..... he got the contents of this building for 10$$ ....we wanted the building!!! its so neat and round...

a greAt row

one of the auctioneers....i tried on this, but it went for 35$

the tall guy is my buddy and sometime supplier ...and you can see some of the competition...
and josh

nobody went thru this pile....

WE got all these....

there was really some good stuff in this row..

another good row

i didnt take everything in this pile!!! left some real bad plastic... ALTHO IVE HEARD SOME OF THATMOLDED PLASTIC FROM THE 70S IS HOT ON EBAY...

jon and josh

thankfully , jon is such a good packer.. . WE NEVER WANT TO GO BACK AND REALLY TRY TO GET IT AL ON ONE LOAD.. ...

HAPPY CAMPERS!!!....this is the life...
. BACK TO OUR ROOTS....
jon gets to go to auctions a lot more than me...BUT im hoping to get out a lot more this year...we have such a great crew at the store i think i can leave on more saturdays.....
hopefully by monday it will be all unloaded and priced....
p.s....lots of our customers enjoyed digging thru the big piles ...but its mostly put away now......about a third of it is packed in a barn waiting for the yardsale in august........and jon made some fun birdhouses with some of the parts......WE PUT a new INDUSTRIAL METAL SECTION UNDER THE AWNING...

. some dealers from ohio called and came, ...we heard screaming...the kids trying to catch the new PIG who had escaped from the chicken pen......jon got it when he was at the amish carpenters, something wrong with the castration and they didnt want it....
