FUN CUSTOMERS

our customers are the greatest!!!

one was so eloquent today....hed bought something for his wife here,

100 yr old paper dolls, and even tho he couldnt understand the big price tag at all ,he bought it for her anyway, on my advice.... ...today he came in and said richard burton couldnt have gotten a better reception when he gave elizabeth taylor the hope diamond than he got for his present ...she loved it...

we seem to have 2 kinds of customers...some are so sweet and tell me to take a rest and go on vacation and that i work too hard....sometimes with a hug and a smile..

.then theres my other favorites..... the what have you got for me lately kind..? as in...you arent working hard enough if i hAVENT FOUND THEM WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR......i often feel the same way...its all about them...which is totally understandable...

actually i love work...and if i look tired...well , i probably am....and so what? id be tired at home too.... the store is so much fun, where else would i be mostly entertained and sometimes driven nuts by family friends and customers... just keeping all our projects going is something i would miss terribly if i ever had to retire....

i sure appreciate when the customers bring their friends!!! if you did that we all thank you.... ..

we had a great day today..

..the fun customer of the day told me a little story.....she saw a big birdcage and told me about hitchhiking across the country inthe 60s, carrying a birdcage with her cat in it...from indiana to l.a....all by herself....she said back then everyone did it....

another told me about being around a bonfire up on a mountain in ky at a family reunion...and about a wild horse up there and driving some off road thing on the mountain trails....hes over 80..

and then there are all the little girls who love the foo foo room....

the cutest car was little and red , a smart car...the biggest , hunkiest was a big yellow hummer ...

and i got to meet the lucky lady who got my giant caterpillar as a present from her husband ..he was there too......and we had a good laugh...about the day he bought it on the phone , the day of the blizzard..... see his picture down in the blog on 0ct 20...

then another old buddy of jons was there....a ww2 vet...and he said america better start making stuff again...all the kids want to do is make money in computers and finances.... i showed him our indiana made cupboards...and i so agree with him...our school system doesnt even teach shop anymore...

so many came today... we definitely plan/ hope/want to make it thru this bad economy and it felt good to see such a good turn out for our sale..

..we all know folks who are hurting financially a little or a lot...its just kind of crummy out there ...

but its good to get out of the house and shop a little too....

customers this week...

its a small world on the internet..
..this week 2 indiana women came to the store....and one said her daughter had sent them...the daughter is in texas and had seen our website.....
......another customer led me down la la lane into a wonderful new business plan of us buying this great building thats available and so reasonable in a great location on a highway, it has a huge inside and a great outside display area and the owners want out...the idea is for us to buy it and recreate another green oak there....besides the money part and the time part and the staff part it sounds fabulous !!! oh, and the dh part.... dang!!!

....note to another customer...you scared the @#&%* out of dh by mentioning the above info!!! i told him its just a baby idea go ahead and squish it.....

customers this week....

our customers are so neat and share so much with us.......this one cut 4 fingers off in her saw...her dh put them in a bowl and they rushed to the hospital..... shes doing so well and we got to see how pretty and pink her reattached digits are.... she said i could put her on my blog...


another customer brought me kind of disgusting news today......it was about a vase i sold for 90$$ he came to see if i still had it....after i said no, he told me hed found it in a book and it was teco .....in case you never heard of teco, its very rare and valuable..and my piece was huge and unmarked....... i thought it might have been teco and did about 10 minutes research on it and couldnt find it.too busy!!!!..so i just put a price on it ...... it was probably worth a whole lot...... so i probably have a happy customer out there..even if he thinks im not the brightest......

.son jon had already heard about it out on his antique rounds.....he calls it word on the street........guess im getting famose....for sellling rare pottery for pennies on the $$...i was afraid of this...and now ive heard it from 2 places....so i guess its true....im looking at it as good advertizing...

another hoosier at springfield

a long term junking buddy he had a wonderful store long ago but now travels the country with his art.... ive bought lots and lots from him over the years and got my first antique lessons from his grandmother...

she was really fun..the way she did business was::::: be nice and honest

always have money

and , no mercy, she would buy from me but never cut me any slack...and always somehow got me down to my lowest price...

actually she was illiterate, i would have to fill out her check but she could sign her name....she was from down south, , and really old when i met her, but she was really smart and could do math in her head upside down...like when i would be adding her up she could get the total ### before me, looking at it upsidedown...

i can see her now, she usually paid cash, she would get it out and say , here comes my pretty money....she had exquisite taste and always ready to buy more if it was good enough...thats pretty much how i learned about antiques,from dealers like her who knew a lot about certain categories, ,,,,,, if she rejected something in victorian, her favorite, that told me a lot.......

customer stories.... dh almost got smacked

this happened a long time ago with a dear customer...and she still comes....shes my age and a teacher and furniture dealer...she and dh were bent over some piece of furniture looking at the under parts, and her husband came up from behind and goosed her!!! she reared up and about decked poor innocent dh..... it was kind of tense for a second then a big laugh...
